Lydia was a merchant from Thyatira, and she sold purple cloth.  She is described as a worshipper of God, identifying her as a Gentile who was attracted to Judaism.  When she met Paul, she was living in Philippi and as attending a prayer meeting with other women by the river.  After listening to what Paul had to say, she became the 1st European convert to Christianity.
