Weekly Rays: James 4:8a Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Food for Thought: THE CLOSER YOU GET THE CLOSER YOU ARE!

*Deuteronomy 30:14 But the Word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.
*Isaiah 55:6 Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.
*James 4:8a Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

**Think about the person in your life (besides your spouse) that you feel the closest to. This would be the person you would call in the middle of the night or if you just needed to “talk”- more than likely that person lives close to you, or it may be a person you work with and see on a regular basis. The person you see, talk to, email, text or visit on a regular basis is probably close to you-they are your “best friend” or a family member you may be close to. You not only have a strong bond, but you live close to them as well. Can we say that is true?
This works both ways-If you are close friends with someone you live close to them and if you live close to them you will form a bond (most of the time).
There is just something about seeing them and talking to them and spending time with them that strengthens your bond with them.
Well with that said-we can apply that to our relationship with our Heavenly Father. The more you spend time with Him, the more we talk to Him, the more we read about Him-the closer we will be to Him. If you spend time with Him daily, you will become closer to Him.
What is cool about getting closer to God is that when we have the desire to draw close to Him we just have to find some alone time to be with Him. We can pray anytime and anywhere, we can listen to worship songs, we can access God’s word anywhere (esp. with the technology we have today-on our phone, computer, ipod/mp3 player and most important in our hearts). We can do something about it. Family is harder because no matter how strong the desire, there may be many miles between you and a family member/friend, and you can’t just pack up and move.
SO HOW CLOSE ARE WE? I am sure not where we want or need to be. I know I am not. What a blessing to have been given the desire to move closer to Him.
